Taking Every Thought Captive: Addiction
Kyle Johnson   -

This week we are going to be talking about another stronghold that I think Satan attempts to set up in our minds: addiction. It is not my intent to spend so much time on addiction as it is to spend time talking about the things that we allow ourselves to be enslaved by, of which, addiction is one of those things.

I think we are enslaved by our busyness, by our anxiety, by our wealth, by our possessions, by our drive for success, by food, by exercise, etc. A person can really be enslaved by anything. St. Paul tells the Corinthians (6:12ff), “Don’t let sin rule your body. After all, your body is bound to die, so don’t obey its desires or let any part of it become a slave of evil.”

We have died to sin through Jesus Christ and the Apostle Paul sternly calls us not to return to our sin and the slavery it represents, but to the freedom found in Jesus Christ. If we are to receive everything that God has in store for us through Jesus, we need to keep ourselves from the things that enslave us.
